The very idea of banning commissions would have industry lobbyists conjuring visions of an apocalyptic landscape where tens of thousands of brokers would have to scurry out of business, unable to live on the value of their counsel instead of their accustomed role facilitating transactions while being paid commissions to support giving their customers “free” advice.
