They’re amongst the first.

They’re pioneers at the start of an exciting new movement within the financial advice profession.

They see things differently. They're curious...

They know that consumers want, need and value their expertise, but these consumers want that expertise on their own terms - and at the time and place of their choice. 

Oh, and they’re willing to pay for it too.

The financial advice model as we know it hasn’t changed much in at least half a century. I know, because I was talking to financial advisers back in 1978 – and many of them had already been in the business for over twenty years.

Face to face. That’s how it’s always been done.

Sometimes at the client’s home; increasingly in the adviser’s office and occasionally these days on Skype.

But there’s a new breed of consumer who needs your help but who doesn’t want to meet you. 

Sorry.

They’re not that bothered if they don’t know what you look like either.

They know they need your skills and they found you on Google or Unbiased or Vouched For, or they tripped over a tweet of yours on Social Media.

There’s a chance someone recommended you too, so the first thing they did was to see what you stand for online.

And if they couldn’t find you online, it’s game over.

If you weren't on Google - it's game over.

If you're not on Social Media... Game over.

If you don't have a blog. Guess what...

But let’s assume they got as far as your website. That’s good, isn’t it?

Well yes. Up to a point...

The thing is, these days when people arrive on your website, they are very much better informed about what they want than just a few years ago. They've already done a little research online about their needs and they've come to you for the advice and 'prescription'. Yet, most IFAs websites haven’t been updated to take that into account.

Their websites still look like brochures.

Many still show nice pictures of lighthouses ‘guiding the way’, along with comforting statements about helping you towards ‘financial freedom’ in your retirement years.

Alongside that come links to services such as Pension Advice, Care Planning and perhaps Investment help.

All very nice, but at the end of the day your website is still a glorified brochure which gives away very little practical information or value. Information that the consumer is proactively looking for. 

And will pay for.

And if they can’t find what they’re looking for on your site, it's game over. Back to Google.

Many of these people are NMCs (New Model Consumers). They come in all shapes, sizes and ages. They want your expertise, but they want it in a format to suit them.

They want it on their terms – not yours.

True, as a financial planning professional you’re entitled to pick and choose the clients that you work with. But do you realise that you’re missing out on a huge new marketplace which perfectly complements your current proposition...

And that's complements - not replaces.

A marketplace that will pay for your expertise when you deliver it through digital information products such as webinars, eBooks, home study courses and much more.

It’s taken many years for change to come, but we’re starting to see a new movement of IFAs and advisers who can see the new world ahead of them – and they want to be part of it.
